Hiking guide for Kraggaholms leden in Venjan

Venjan is small village in Dalarna county in Sweden. It is surrounded by woods and lakes and it is quiet place to visit, ideal place for people searching for quiet place in nature. It is great place for swimming, kayaking, fishing, hiking, cycling and other sports. Enjoy nice 10km loop “Kraggaholms leden” through the woods passing by some lakes. While this hike is really nice, I only recommend if you are visiting the area/campsite. I would not travel specially for it.

TRAIL DETAILS

Enjoy this easy and peaceful trail. About half of the trail is through forrest on single person trek and about 4km is on wide easy road. You will encounter only mild hills with only very short climbs at easy incline. The forrest trail can have some stones and roots at times, not a lot or very technical. Since you will pass by some lakes and swampy area, couple sections have wooded planks.

A lot of the forrest is covered by moss and blueberry plants. Take note that these woods have moose and droppings can be spotted on the trail. Keep eyes open and take caution especially if walking in the morning in the evening.

Old mill

If walking counter-clockwise, after about 3km there will be a turn to old mill, only few 100s meters from the path. It is marked only by a pole with a rock on top (on your right side), so pay close attention. It is just a ruin from stones by a creek. Nice place to take a break or enjoy the quiet.

this is the turn for the old mill. Watch for pole with a rock on top and very small side trail to the right

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I completed only about 7km of Venjan trail on two days, not as a loop. The conditions were cloudy and rainy. I have not encountered anyone but I do expect you might meet some people on weekend and in good weather. It is not touristy area, so I do not expect crowds. The trail was mostly fine and passable even after several days of rain with exception of the area of swamps between the lake and the bigger road, that was very muddy/flooded and not passable without boots.

The trail also passes by a small river
