Season

Montane Atomic jacket is ideal for spring/autumn seasons, when it is raining a lot and the temperatures are changing rapidly. Although I would say it is best suited for cooler temperatures.

Waterproof jacket

The jacket is 100% waterproof. I have tested it in several conditions and types of rain and the jacket kept me dry. The jacket has adjustable cuffs and hood which will keep the rain away.

Breathable

Waterproof jackets tend to capture heat and are not that breathable. However I find this jacket fairly breathable and additionally it has armpit zip. If you get warm easily as I do, pit zips are a must. It is easy way to instantly adjust temperature and allow for some ventilation even if the jacket is zipped up.

Windproof

Another advantage is that Montane atomic jacket is also windproof. Many waterproof jackets are not windproof. This jacket does solid job in keeping wind away.

Lightweight

This jacket is very lightweight (around 300g) for the level of waterproofness that it delivers. It can pack small and its great addition when space and weight are important.

Fit and Look

I purchased size L and I would say it is true to size. It is bit looser fit, but the fit is perfect and very comfortable. It comes in several colours as well as black. I got Tibetan red, which is muted shade of red. The hood is state of art, it has many cool features. My favourite is by making small adjustments it creates small visor keeping rain away from your face. This is constructed so well that it stays in shape even in heavy rain or wind.  The length of the jacket is also nice, it is bit longer which makes it perfect also for cycling as it will keep your back covered and dry.

Verdict  for Montane Atomic jacket

This waterproof jacket surprised me and I 100% recommend it. It’s exactly as described and delivers on all the features. It quickly became a staple in my wardrobe.

There are many additional features that make this jacket multi functional.

The material seems high quality and extremely durable. I have tested it few times while going through bushes during geocaching and the jacket survived all these adventures.

I find it very versatile as for how thin and light it is. It is perfect for cooler temperatures as waterproof materials creates bit more heat and additionally the jacket is windproof, keeping chill away. Especially if you add warmer layers underneath.

It seems the Montane Atomic jacket is no longer available, however Montane seems to offer great jackets, which are similar. Montane website HERE
