Rundslinga Suttarboda – Annaboda

posted in: Sweden | 2

Rundslinga (round loop) between Annaboda and Suttarboda in Sweden is well marked trail through beautiful woodlands, passing several lakes. The trail is part of Bergslagsleden, which is the longest distance trail in Sweden. Half of the loop follows the entire section 10 of Bergslagsleden, which is the shortest section out of 17. More information about this long distance trail HERE. The website contains also more information about the section, transportation, etc.

Along the trail there are several information boards that have some explanation also in English.

TRAIL NAVIGATION

You could follow the trail without additional navigation. Take a picture of the map at the trail head. The routes are well marked in both directions by blue “ribbons” around trees. There are sometimes additional small signposts with directions or larger ones also with distances. The orange ribbons marks long distance trail (Bergslagsleden), so you will see these for 7km of the loop. Follow signs for Rundslinga, which means round loop in Swedish.

Walk either from Annaboda or Suttarboda in either direction. I recommend walking from Annaboda anti-clockwise, following Bergslagsleden first.

TRAIL DETAILS

ANNABODA TO SUTTARBODA – orange trail first

Start at Annaboda parking lot, right at the wooden “gate” with sign Berglagsleden. Follow paved lake path, which quickly it will turn into forrest trail. The terrain is relatively easy but full of rocks and tree roots, so might be slippery or muddy after rain or in the morning. Expect some small hills before descending to lake Falkasjon, where you can find campground. Enjoy short but steep climb up Falkaberget which offers great views over the lake. Descent and follow the lake and then you can enjoy views on Falkaberget, as it rises steeply above the lake. After crossing road, you reach next lake Bjorktjarnen. Enjoy the trail along the lake and at the end of it is another campground. After this the terrain and views will change rapidly by leading over meadows, planks, various forrest types and the final stretch is along field with electric fence, reaching Suttarboda. From here do NOT follow orange signs anymore, only blue sign leading to the left.

SUTTARBODA TO ANNABODA – back on blue

Follow the wide road along the farm leading downhill, at the bottom of the dip, there will be signs that will bring you on forrest path. This part of the loop is mostly in the forrest, it does not offer as many points of interests, lakes and so on. It is still very nice walk through the woods. You will also make short walks on roads, so pay attention to cars and the signs. You will reach small ski lift area, locating the trail was slight challenge due to fallen trees on the trail, you just need to make sure to head slight uphill diagonally to your left. Here you start somewhat steep climb, but from now the terrain will be mostly very easy until paved path around lake Sodra Annaboda. Follow this road until you reach Annaboda parking lot.

Majority of the trail is through woodlands, on mild hills, with some roots on the ground, but otherwise easy terrain.
Bjorktjarnen
You will pass many lakes along the way. Take a note of the ribbons on the tree, orange for the long distance trail and blue for the round loop

PAVED – 2,5km loop, the shortest one around Sodra Annaboda lake,it is fully paved. It is on mildly rolling hills but otherwise easy with many picnic tables and benches along.

BERGSLAGSLEDEN SECTION 9  If you have more time you could also complete parts of the long distance trail in opposite direction. There is no similar big loop as for section 10 so it would be there and back walk.
